The first introductory session by Deepak Sir was based on identifying our niche. You should have a clear idea about what you are going to deliver to your audience and it should be uniform. After the successful completion of our assignment, we moved ahead with the second session. It was based on recognising our potential audience and creating the customer avatar. With the help of customer avatar, we can reach our target audience easily. The session began by sharing a few basic principles.

“Distraction is more harmful to the brain than drugs”

So whenever you are getting started with your online lectures, it is advised to turn your cell off or set it on flight mode. The less the distraction, more will be your productivity. Also if you are learning something new, it’s good to stay focused.

The Self – Development Triangle

Our skills and self-development will improve if we follow the golden triangle principle. LEARN – DO – TEACH. The best way to gain any new skill is by learning something fresh every day. Research on new topics to improve an existing skill. Implement your knowledge in real life to check your skill. It’s perfectly fine to commit mistakes when you are in the learning phase. They are preparing you for a better future. Share your knowledge and experiences with like-minded people. There are high chances that you will also learn something in return. When you teach someone, you gain confidence in your niche. This way you are constantly communicating with some individuals. And as we learnt in the previous session, communication is the key to become a successful marketer.

Being Authentic and a Better Marketer

If you want to become a better marketer and address a huge audience, you must start by interacting with a single person at a time. Meaning, if you can communicate 1:1 without any difficulty, you will succeed when the communication will be 1:many. Your audience is able to grasp what you are delivering them without any complexity is what good communication is all about.

The authenticity of a person is the key to attraction. Your audience will be drawn to you when you present the real you. This is the reason why the graph of personal branding is growing day by day.

If you want to become the better version of yourself, start gaining more life experiences. These are different than your work experiences.

  1. Travelling is the best way to bring new exposures especially if you travel solo.
  2. Keep learning new languages. This way you will increase your audience reach too.
  3. Keep interacting with new people every day.
  4. Start sharing your experiences to increase your communication.

A person with more life experience tends to become a better marketer.

Defining Your Target Audience

To set an audience target, you must be aware of the audience behaviour. Start with a few basic behaviours it goes like Age group, Gender, City of residence, Likes, Dislikes, Educational Background, Relationship Status, Working Profile, Annual Income and Hobbies. Interact with them, make calls, talk to them personally to know more about your target audience and their requirements.

Try to make your communication look like it is done with a single person to attract this audience. In this way, when the consumers interact with your content in their device, it is 1:1 communication. This is effective even if you have a bigger consumer base. Try to make your conversation as much intimidating as possible. Communicate with your audience as if you are talking to a friend. Use their first name in your mails. Make them feel like the conversation is specially meant for them.

No doubt, initially these practices will make you feel awkward. Understand that these challenges are the indicator that you are learning.

My Customer Avatar

Ever since I graduated, I always thought of helping out the startups with my skills and ideas that was easier for them to implement. I wanted to help them grow over the internet to get more clients and increase their business. There are varies types of domains on which startups are divided. It can be a law firm, IT-based firm, Events and entertainment firm, Teaching Firm or simply an online business. The online strategy to get clients, financial investments, marketing and processing is different for every firm.

So my customer avatar is based on someone interested in business and starting their own firm. Most of the audience was from the age group 22-35 years. Students who just graduated were higher in number as they were looking for guidance to move ahead. Working professionals are also potential customers as they also plan to start something new after gaining industrial exposure. This kind of audience is looking for multiple aspects like new ideas, investors, ideal location, ideal customers, technical help, business setup (physical office).

The only thing for which I am not sure for now is which kind of domain I can serve efficiently and can gain expertise. The response I received was from individuals who are interested to start their architectural firm, want to grow their family business. One was from the furniture industry, more than 2 candidates were from the events industry.

I already had a follower base of a similar audience so I shared my customer avatar link. I offered a free consultation on the occasion of Christmas to attract potential clients and received a great response. Though I’m not any professional consultant, the feedback I received after calls boosted up my confidence level a little higher.

Overall this was a very interactive assignment which not only gave us an exposure about how to find clients but also how to communicate with them.
