When you start developing an interest in any newly emerging field of study, it is very necessary to find a correct mentor. He should be the one to guide you through the unknown path. A mentor can save your time and energy by directing you to walk on the correct path more efficiently. This way you will reach your goal more easily.
Like many like-minded digital marketing enthusiasts, I was also a part of the Internship Program by Digital Deepak. I joined this program to gain more exposure to digital marketing and to learn the implementation of various tools. But what most of us are looking for is a mentor who can guide us throughout this journey.
I’m following Deepak Sir for the last 3 years since my college days. During that time too we used to promote our college fests on various social platforms and groups about various kinds of competitions without knowing the fact that there exists a term for this method of promotions. I kept hustling for the next 2 years to learn digital marketing on my own. I kept consuming content from Google and Youtube without learning how to implement my knowledge.
In the initial few minutes of the class, I realised that my thought of digital marketing was partially correct. I always believed that using various kinds of tools is the primary requirement of digital marketing. It has nothing to do with my communication is what I always assumed. I learned how well a digital marketer should communicate with the audience during this session. Communication is not just about talking. You also have to be a good listener. You don’t have to be a good speaker but a better communicator.
The first day was all about self-improvement and finding the gold (keep reading to know more). I learned the 4 major actions one can take if he/she wants to improve his/her communication skills:
- Reading a book -Start spending at least 30 minutes of your day by reading a book.
- Listening to a podcast -Start spending 30–45 minutes daily to improve your listening skills.
- Writing -Start developing a habit of writing. This is the basic method of generating new contents.
- Watching English sitcoms -This will not only improve your grasp over the language but also help you develop an interest in various topics.
Whenever we get started with something new, it is a general human tendency to check with the future scope of the trend.
As a beginner, I also came across many articles where it was mentioned that AI will take over all the market of digital marketers and many jobs will be replaced with automation. This created a sense of insecurity in my mind if I should go ahead with this field or switch to something else. In this session, this major doubt was also cleared. Automation can be done for many processes (Email, social media posts, client queries to start with) but how can you automate human to human conversation? Hence again communication is the primary key for success in digital marketing.
Whenever one is planning to get started with something, the most important step is finding your niche. (remember the mention of finding the gold earlier?). Select a niche on which you can dedicate your whole time on doing research and writing something that is valuable. Do complete market research to select a perfect niche for yourself. Study what people are searching in order to know the current trend in your niche. Various online tools are available for the same. I was aware of Google trends and Ubersuggest. But I came across a long list of tools in this session. You can explore tools like Ahref, SEMRush, Moz, Answer the Public, KeywordTool.io and so on. You can also do competitor research with the help of these tools to know what they are doing and get more ideas.
So after clearing all my basic and major doubts, now I’m all set to find my niche and get started with this journey.
